　　 While My Guitar Gently Weeps　を演奏するエリッククラプトンとポールマッカートニーを

ジョージマーチンが紹介します。　

Blackbird　の演奏を終えたポールの方を見て第一声が“I think I’ve seen him somewhere before!”

　　「この人どこかで見たことあるなあ。」

 

ちなみにポールはこの記念祭で(６月４日)以下の曲を演奏しました。

And she said, 'Not in my garden!'   笑いがおこります。

　

　女王様にお尋ねしたんだ。　来年もやることになるのでしょうか。

そしたら女王様いわく「私の庭では嫌よ！」

　さてジョージマーチンのスピーチです。

 

You know, well, it's 40 years ago, almost the day since I took the Beatles into Abbey Road Studios

  　　えー、４０年程前の話です。　私がビートルズを初めてアビーロードスタジオに連れて行ったのは

 

for the first time.   And Paul and George, ha, ha, they were still teenagers then,

でポールとジョージは、ふふ、当時まだ10代の若者でしたね。　まだ１９歳でした。

 

still they were nineteen.

　　　　　　　　　　　　

And their sounds were pretty unusual for that time and I was getting right

   　彼らの出す音は当時の感覚としてはとてもかわったものでしたが私の判断は正しそうでした。

 

So I invited them to the control room and I told them to let me know if there was anything

　　そこで彼らをコントルームにくるように言い何か気に入らないことがあれば言ってくれと

 

they don't like about it.     And it was George who came through, the youngest of his group,

　　彼らに言ったのです。　　　するとやってきたのはジョージで、　一番年下ですよ。

　

and he said "I don't like your tie, for a start."

　そして彼が言うには　｢まずあんたのネクタイが気に入らないな｣

 

Well, I knew that we would get on famously because their sense of humor was mine

　　ええ、彼らとはうまくやっていけると思いましたね。　というのは彼らのユーモアのセンスは

 

and I knew well that we would get on well.    Because George's humor and sensitivity

　私と同じでしたので自信がありました。　　　　　　　というのはジョージのユーモアと感受性の強さが彼を　　　

 

made him one of the most interesting artists of his generation and he was more than

　同時代のもっとも興味を引くアーチストにしたのです。　　そして彼はあの二人の巨匠、ポールと

 

able to hold his own in a band with those two giants, Paul and John.

　ジョンとのバンドにおいても独自のユーモアのセンスと感受性を発揮できただけではありません。

 

 And in the early 70s, he found an immense success with his epic triple album "All

　その後７０年代初めに　AllThings Must Pass.　という壮大な３枚組ので大成功を収めたのです。

 

Things Must Pass."

 

 But it is for his work with the Beatles that George will always be remembered

　しかしながらジョージがすばらしい音楽家で大切な人物だったと皆が思い出すのはビートルズでの

　

he's a wonderful musician and a dear man.

　作品のおかげなのです。
